Belmont School 22nd October 2021 Newsletter

Global Goal 4 – Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful start to the new academic year, I cannot believe that it is half-term already!

All of our new starters, namely reception and nursery pupils, have settled into the Belmont learning community and are showing a great deal of creativity, well done!

We are well and truly into Autumn, with Winter following fiercely behind. Please can I remind all of you to ensure that your children come into school wearing coats and the correct school uniform (see information below), note - no boots. Please do make sure that your put your child's name on ALL of their clothing.

We hosted successful virtual parent consultations this week. For those who were unable to book, please email the office, and we will arrange for the class teacher to call you after the break.

As the number of COVID-19 cases continually rise, it is important that you take the time to read the updated links below on how you can keep you, your family and others safe by taking part in regular rapid testing and taking a PCR when you become symptomatic, wearing a face covering whilst in crowded spaces, including when you come to pick up and drop off your children to school and ensuring that we continue to follow good hygiene practices. Do not send your child into school with a bag unless they are changing books.

Pupils have been really enjoying the Exploration, 'Once upon a me...'. Staff and pupils have really enjoyed learning more about 'Black History Month'. They took part in virtual assemblies delivered by the author Kandace Chimbir.

Today is ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ Day. This is an important day for us to develop knowledge on how discrimination will not be tolerated and how we celebrate inclusion. We have decided to acknowledge and celebrate this day on Tuesday 2nd November, which is the first day back for pupils, with a non-uniform ‘wear Red Day’. Staff and pupils can wear anything red on that day to show solidarity. Further information can be found by clicking the link below:

https://www.theredcard.org/ourstory

Thank you to those parents who have completed our online questionnaire. Your thoughts and views are important to us, so we have decided to extend the deadline so that those who have not completed can by clicking the link below :

Your role as parent and carer is important to assist us in developing the school's vision and values not just in school but outside of school. We would like to find out about what your experiences have been since 2nd September.

Please complete the form below by Friday 5th November 2021.

Once we have gathered the information, we will share our findings!

A final reminder to all Year 6 Parents that the high school application deadline date is 31st October 2021. Please check out our news section for help with submitting the online application form.

We have many exciting clubs starting after half-term and there are still spaces for pupils at Belmont to join in next week's Be Active Holiday Camp (see booking details below)!

Have a safe and restful half-term break, and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 2nd November.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs P Aggarwall

Headteacher (Acting)

It is important that your child starts school with their peers as this will help them to get ready for the amazing learning planned. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child is in school at their designated times. Repeated lateness means that your child is losing out on valuable learning, therefore the school’s safeguarding procedures will be followed and referrals will be made to external agencies where necessary.

Pupils who are not collected at the designated times at the end of the day will be escorted to the afterschool club (ACE) which will result in a charge for this service for parents.

Half-term week Commencing 25 October

A reminder that school will be closed for the half-term holiday w/c Monday 25 October. Monday 1st November is training day and will be closed. School will re-open at the usual time on Tuesday 2nd November 2021.

Online Learning Expectations and Support

We continue to set online weekly home learning online via 'Microsoft My Teams'. Staff will review what has been completed and leave feedback on the pupil’s page.

We are digitising the way the school operates, this means you will have access to all of the pupils daily learning so that pupils can review what they have learnt during the school day at home.

Please focus on reading with your child every day for at least 20 minutes, help them to learn their times tables and spellings and talk to them about their learning in school.

If you need help or support with online home learning, Mr Baig, our Computing Technician will be available to support you every morning from 8.30am to 9am. You will need to complete the following form to let us know what you need help with:

1. All children will be allowed to wear black shoes or black trainers. The black trainers must have no

White/coloured soles or laces. If there are logos, these must be black (see pictures below):

2. The PE kit worn into school must be as follows:

  • Black or white trainers with plain laces. (No brightly coloured trainers please)
  • Black/Grey PE shorts, jogging bottoms (when it gets colder) or skorts – with no logo.
  • Plain white T-shirt or polo shirt (with no logo)
  • Pupils wear their purple school sweatshirt.

Please note that children should not be wearing any branded clothing and must only wear what is stated above.

Children in Year 6 will be expected to wear a school tie that can be bought from Teeny Wear in Harrow Weald. They must come to school wearing it on the first day back.

Long hair must be tied up. Hair accessories are not allowed and hijabs worn must be white.

We will be monitoring pupils’ presentation and expect all children to be wearing the correct uniform from the first day of school.

  • Ensuring that you spread out and maintain a safe social distance from others when waiting to come on site – Keep your distance.
  • Do not gather in groups outside of the school gates and leave site as soon as possible – Keep your distance.
  • Wear a face covering when dropping off and collecting pupils and do let us know if you are exempt.
  • Wash your hands regularly.

No parents may come into building without an appointment.  All communication must be by email, website or telephone.  We must maintain social distancing and strict timings

Home Rapid Testing For Families

COVID -19 infection rates remain high, particularly in Harrow and other parts of North West London. In order to keep schools safe and open the NHS is now rolling out rapid testing to all families with school age children. This is intended to pick up asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 so that outbreaks can be managed and contained quickly. If any member of your household normally leaves home to go to work, your family should be taking rapid (Lateral Flow) tests twice a week.

School staff are already doing rapid home testing so ensure any infection is picked up quickly. We will be sending out a separate letter from Harrow’s Public Health Team explaining where and how families can get tested, and this will include arrangements for attending local rapid  Test Centres as well and how to order home test kits.

Safeguarding remains ‘EVERYONE’S BUSINESS AT BELMONT SCHOOL.’

Harrow Children Services’ Golden Number is available to everyone, and gives people one number to call for information or advice on services for children, young people and their families.

Golden Number: 020 8901 2690.
