Global Goal 4 – Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had an amazing first few weeks back at Belmont School. Your children have been reviewing British Values alongside the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Classes have elected their pupil voice representatives, and they have been meeting with their staff leads over the last week. I cannot wait to see how they continue to support the development of Belmont this year! More information about pupil voice leaders can be found below.

Class Assemblies

We have had the pleasure of enjoying 6 Saturn, 6 Pluto and 6 Jupiter's class assemblies over the last three weeks. You have set the bar high by linking to our school values, you demonstrated respect, you did your best, and you have helped us to reflect on how we can all make the right choices. A big thank you to all the staff who helped, your children for their amazing performances, and all the parents/carers and extended family members who came to watch.

Parent and Teacher Meetings on Monday 16th October and Wednesday 18th October 2023

We had huge success with virtual meetings last year, and we had positive feedback from you on how it saved time, as well as how you were able to discuss your child’s progress with the class teacher. So, this year we will be hosting parent and teacher meetings in person and virtually on the following days for Nursery to Year 6:

  • Monday 16th October, 3.20pm to 6.20pm - In Person
  • Wednesday 18th October, 3.20pm to 6.20pm - Virtually via My Teams (links to be sent out on Tuesday 17th October)

Parents/carers will need to open the Arbor app and choose 'Guardian Consultations' for each of your children to book a time slot suitable for you.

We will be emailing you with a generic link to the virtual meeting on Tuesday 17th October. If you are attending the virtual meeting on Wednesday, please ensure that you click the link a minute before your allocated time. Your child’s class teacher will only admit you when it is your allocated time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Black History Month/Show Racism The Red Card Day, 20th October

Last week marked the start of Black History Month in the UK.

It goes without saying that these are histories and lives that must be recognised throughout the year and are woven into our curriculum. However, Black History Month does give us a special opportunity to acknowledge, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture. CBBC and CBeebies have lots of great Black History Month resources if you would like to explore these at home with your children.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/curations/blackhistory-month https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/curations/black-history-month

On the 20th October is Show Racism the Red Card Day!

To highlight the importance of everyone standing together against racism, we would like all staff, children, parents/carers and family members to wear red to support our efforts to show respect to all and celebrate diversity.

We will be reviewing the following articles, so please do speak to your children about it at home.

UNCRC Article 2 - All children have the right to be treated fairly.
UNCRC Article 19 - All children have the right to be safe and to be protected from being hurt and mistreated.

Parent Workshops

We have had a fantastic turnout of parents, carers and family members who came to the curriculum mornings in September. We hosted an Early Years workshop run by Early Support in Harrow, as well as our Mental Health Support Team this morning.

All workshops can be found on our school calendar. Please have a look and add them to your phone diaries. We would love to see more parents attend.

Next half-term, we will be running parent workshops on reading for groups all years.

Individual & Sibling Photos

Our school photographer will be coming on Thursday 2nd November and Friday 3rd November to take your child's picture. Please make sure that they are wearing the correct school uniform.

Further details will be sent out after half-term.

Parent, Pupil and Staff Committee Meeting - 1st November at 9am

Mrs McKenzie was blown away by the number of parents/carers who would like to join our newly reformed Parent, Pupil and Staff Committee (PPS).

We will be holding our first meeting on Wednesday 1st November at 9am and would like for as many of you to attend as possible.

Music Tuition (For years 3 to 6 only)

We still have a limited number of places available for Music Tuition through Harrow Music Services.

If you like more information, or would like to sign up your child, please email the school office via, office@belmont.harrow.sch.uk.

A reminder to all parents/carers, that if you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to any member of staff on duty or email the school office via office@belmont.harrow.sch.uk or by submitting your query on our virtual form found on our website (https://www.belmont.harrow.sch.uk/contact-us-form). Pupil Voice Leaders

Here at Belmont School, we believe that our children are the most important people, and we endeavour to give all children lots of opportunities to share their ideas and opinions and play an active role in the decisions that affect their learning and well-being.

We have lots of ways that children can do this formally through the following leadership groups:

  • School Council - voted by peers
  • Prefects - Year 6 selected by the Headteacher
  • Play Detectives - voted by peers
  • RRS Ambassadors - voted by peers
  • Outdoor Learning Leaders - voted by peers
  • Digital leaders - voted by peers
  • Young Ambassadors For Peace - KS2 selected by the Deputy Headteacher

As well as regular pupil conferencing and taking part in pupil surveys, we also work hard to create an ethos that allows the children to regularly share their opinions in an informal way through conversations in class, assemblies and 1:1 conversations with all school staff. The aim is to develop British Values and have pupils who are leaders of their learning.

Year 6 Prefects

In Year 6, children will have the opportunity to become school prefects.

School prefects have important jobs to do in order to ensure smooth day-to-day running and organisation of the school day. Prefect jobs may include being tour guides for visitors, supporting distribution of resources, or preparing the hall for assemblies.

Children who wish to be a 'prefect' have been chosen for having a positive and responsible attitude. This role will involve carrying out jobs in their own time which shows a huge commitment to the school.  Badges are given out in an assembly and our children wear them with pride.

For the Autumn Term 2023, we have 20 school prefects and they are:

6S 6P 6J
Harley-May Roman Sammy-Jo

Online Learning Expectations and Support

We continue to set online weekly home learning online via 'Microsoft My Teams'. Staff will review what has been completed and leave feedback on the pupil’s page.

We are digitising the way the school operates, this means you will have access to all of the pupils daily learning so that pupils can review what they have learnt during the school day at home.

Please focus on reading with your child every day for at least 20 minutes, help them to learn their times tables and spellings and talk to them about their learning in school.

If you need help or support with online home learning, Mr Baig, our Computing Technician will be available to support you every morning from 8.30am to 9am. You will need to complete the following form to let us know what you need help with:
