Global Goal 4 – Quality Education - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Dear Families,

Welcome to the Summer Term! This term will be the final term for our Year 6's who have been busy preparing for the upcoming end-of-year tests which will be taking place on Monday 12th June!

As we are officially now in summer, please make sure that your child comes into school with a refillable water bottle with their full name on it just in case it gets misplaced!

VE Day Celebration at Belmont

Thursday 8th May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the ending of World War 2 which is something we feel should be celebrated. Further down the newsletter you will find information as to why celebrating the day is important.

On Thursday, 8th May, we will be organising a range of activities at school to commemorate this important event. We are planning for the children to experience a 'street tea party', weather permitting, which will be catered by HCL, who are organising a special lunch that will be shared with you next week. Children must come to school wearing full school uniform.

Class Assemblies

We have had the pleasure of watching 1 Sun and 1 Earth class assemblies. The pupils performed exceptionally well and a huge thank you to our staff for creating two wonderful productions and families who attended, for your ongoing support!

Outstandingly Happy Harrow School!

Belmont pupils and staff are always looking to live outside their zone of comfort and, as part of this, we would like to share the following quote with you:

VE Day - 80 Years On

The first few months of 1945 saw the Allied forces in Europe rapidly gain ground and capture hundreds of thousands of prisoners.

As the Allies closed in on a surrounded Berlin, Nazi leader Adolf Hitler took his life on the last day of April, and the German forces’ unconditional surrender followed on 7th May.

A newsflash was broadcast to the public announcing the end of the war in Europe and that the next day was declared Victory in Europe (VE) Day (and a public holiday in the UK). Throughout the Allied world, millions celebrated. In Britain, pubs could stay open until late, and red, white and blue bunting could be bought without ration coupons. Streets were filled with singing and dancing, parties and parades. Special thanksgiving services were held.

Yet the joy and relief were tempered by memories of the hundreds of thousands who had died, or were still missing, and concern for those still at war. Brutal fighting continued to rage in east Asia and the Pacific until August.

More than 250,000 Allied Prisoners of War were liberated in Europe, and their repatriation home had to be organised.

As the Allies swept across Europe they uncovered the full horror of the network of concentration and forced labour camps and other locations where six million Jewish people and hundreds of thousands of others had been murdered. Genocide, war and forced population movements created more than 50 million refugees and displaced people in Europe. It would take many months and vast resources to care for and resettle these people.

Yet after years of uncertainty and sacrifice, the people of Europe could face the new challenges of reconstruction and peace.

The Second World War generation changed the course of history, and commenced the rebuilding of an exhausted country in the post war years. These men and women defended the freedoms we enjoy today. We remember their service and sacrifice.

Reading support

Many families ask for extra learning. The best activity is being outside for daily physical exercise and reading to exercise the brain!

Below explains the importance of why reading for 20 minutes minimum has on your child's outcomes:

Do not forget to log your child's reading on our Reading Log App and to take pictures of them reading in the sun!

Communication

We will be sending out the 'What's On' list, as well as the home learning and curriculum overviews that will include information on what your child will learn this term.

A reminder to all families: If you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to any member of staff on duty or email the school office via office@belmont.harrow.sch.uk or by submitting your query on our virtual form found on our website (https://www.belmont.harrow.sch.uk/contact-us-form). We aim to respond to queries within 10 working days as outlined in our Positive Communication Policy, which can be found in the policy section on our website, where you will also find:
