Geography at Belmont
Intent
Our Geography curriculum nurtures children’s curiosity about the world and its people, building knowledge of places in Britain and abroad, as well as their local area of Harrow and London. Pupils develop a strong sense of identity, heritage, and place, while gaining the skills to communicate geographical understanding effectively.
We aim to develop geographers who:
-
Know where places are and what they are like, in Britain and beyond.
-
Understand interdependence and interconnectedness.
-
Use rich geographical vocabulary and enquiry skills.
-
Draw conclusions, explain findings, and present confidently.
-
Apply fieldwork techniques and express informed opinions on environmental and societal issues.
Implementation
Teachers plan using knowledge organisers, sequenced lessons, low-stakes quizzes, challenge questions, and curriculum-linked home learning. Trips and visiting experts enrich learning and provide real-world context.
Impact
Progress is measured through reflection on outcomes, celebration of learning, quiz tracking, pupil discussions, and tasks that show how knowledge and skills are applied. By keeping pace with the curriculum, pupils demonstrate curiosity, confidence, and secure progression as young geographers.
