Curriculum at Belmont School

Belmont School's Vision

Development of the whole school learning community promotes personalised and independent learning throughout the learning journey for pupils and adults. Pupil voice informs all school development priorities – every child, every day make us Stronger Together.

Belmont’s Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum is rooted in UNICEF’s Rights for Children and the 17 Global Goals. At Belmont, pupils explore what these goals mean for them and act as leaders to share understanding across the school.

Children are at the centre of our school, where positive relationships built on trust and respect guide everything we do. Our ambitious curriculum follows the Early Years and National Curriculum, offering enriching experiences, progressive knowledge, and essential life skills. The creative and performing arts play a key role, giving every child vibrant opportunities for self-expression.

We aim for our children to:

  • Be confident, independent, resilient, and leaders of their own learning.
  • Show kindness, empathy, and respect for diversity.
  • Achieve academically across all subjects, meeting national expectations.
  • Gain cultural knowledge of the UK and the wider world.
  • Aspire for the future, knowing success comes through effort and determination.
  • Be ready for the challenges of the next stage of learning.

Ultimately, we want every child to be the best they can be and make a positive contribution to the world.

Implementation

We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum based on statutory requirements, carefully sequenced from EYFS to Year 6. Knowledge and skills are built progressively, supported by high-quality lessons, resources, and cultural experiences. This ensures pupils retain and apply key learning as they progress.

Teachers and support staff access ongoing professional development and bespoke training to deliver creative, high-quality lessons. Teaching blends whole-class, group, and individual approaches to meet diverse needs.

Impact

Through our curriculum, pupils:

  • Show kindness, empathy, resilience, and self-regulation.
  • Develop a lifelong love of learning.
  • Make strong progress from their starting points and achieve well across the curriculum.
  • Gain knowledge, skills, and vocabulary to thrive as 21st-century citizens.
  • Access a wide curriculum that allows them to excel individually.
  • Have high aspirations and understand the value of hard work.
  • Become emotionally resilient learners who see mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Leave Belmont well-prepared for the future, supported by strong school-family partnerships.
