Art and Design at Belmont School

AccessArt Progression (Skills and Knowledge) for Primary Schools Years 1 to 6

ntent
At Belmont, our Art curriculum connects pupils with history, culture, and contemporary issues, fostering creativity, individuality, and confidence. Pupils learn through and about art, developing technical skills alongside self-expression, cultural awareness, and well-being. They explore diverse media, building progression as artists while engaging with global and personal themes.

Implementation
Art and Design are taught alternately each half term using Access Art’s curriculum. Pupils study a wide range of artists, designers, and craftspeople, focusing on three pathways: drawing and sketchbooks, surface and colour, and 3D work. Teachers are supported through CPD, moderation, and partnerships with schools and competitions, ensuring high-quality teaching and opportunities for pupils to showcase their work.

Impact
By the end of Belmont, pupils will:

  • Express themselves confidently through varied media and art forms.

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge, skills, and vocabulary.

  • Develop a personal artistic style, evident in their sketchbooks.

Leaders monitor impact through pupil, staff, and parent voice. Our curriculum reflects artworks of social, cultural, and historical significance, empowering pupils to express themselves and understand the world with creativity and confidence.
