Science at Belmont School

Intent
Our Science curriculum builds strong foundations in biology, chemistry and physics, fostering curiosity and excitement about the natural world. Pupils learn key knowledge, methods, and concepts, developing the ability to explain, predict and analyse phenomena while recognising the role of science in shaping the future.

Implementation
Aligned with the National Curriculum, pupils:

  • Develop scientific knowledge and understanding across the three disciplines.

  • Learn enquiry skills to answer questions about the world.

  • Gain awareness of the uses and implications of science today and in the future.

Science is taught through discrete topics (e.g. Sound, Electricity, Plants), with cross-curricular links planned wherever possible to deepen understanding and apply skills across subjects.

Impact
Pupils observe, question, and explore the world with increasing curiosity. They learn to discuss ideas, ask questions, and recognise how scientific knowledge evolves. By collecting and analysing data, they draw evidence-based conclusions and explain their findings clearly.

Leaders monitor impact regularly, including through pupil voice, to ensure Science is engaging, challenging and effective.
